Stories are one of the oldest, yet best methods to get across lessons, particularly those which are difficult to explain.
They are also a form of entertainment, which can keep us reading, watching and listening for hours on end.
The power and impact of stories can be incredible.
Indeed, the sign of a great author is someone who can make us feel emotions. They can make us feel alive and take us away from our daily routines to a wonderful fantasy, even for a brief period.
We are also authors.
Most of us do not write our own stories. But we do have our own stories. These are the stories of our life. They can be sad. They can be happy. They can be sombre. They can be exciting. We usually create our own narratives from our experiences.
Although many of us do not write stories, we should.
Why is this?
Well for one, writing has a magical tendency of making things real. It’s hardly any wonder why this happens. For one, you are using your physiology to actually write something down. The very act of your hands writing or fingers typing means you are investing some emotional energy into creating your story.
And then there’s the real interesting part – your imagination. You need to allow your imagination to run a wild in order to create a good story. You need to allow your creative juices to follow.
So start writing what you want to do in your life! What do you want to be? If you were to write just one chapter on how you would like your life to improve over the next year what would you write?
Remember, good stories make us feel. And you don’t need someone else to write you a story or have to watch a TV programme to make you feel. You can do that all by yourself!
Perhaps your stammering is causing you problems in a particular situation and now you want to approach this situation more confidently. Then write down how you will behave in the situation. What will your attitude be like? Make a note of who else will be there at the time. Consider how you will feel and what you will see around you.
Keep writing until it begins to feel exciting, possible, motivating, humorous and playful. Really begin to feel as if you are starting to live the story.
Also, stories can be adapted. If you find yourself moving into plot, which doesn’t help much, just change the storyline to the one you want.
This is what great storytellers do all the time. They change their writing based upon the emotion they want their readers to experience.
Remember, before you want to make any change in your life, you have to see yourself doing it. You can do this using your imagination. However, consider making this process even more powerful by writing down what you want as well.
